Renowned Hip-Hop singer Davido Adeleke, popularly known has Davido, has revealed on his Instagram that the compulsory one year service which he started some months ago has been cancelled by the authorities of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
Reacting to a post made by a Nigerian Music Promoter Adesegun Adeosun, @iamsmade had successfully completed the NYSC program and got a letter of recommendation, Davido wrote: “Naso dem cancel my own”
It is unclear if the cancellation is related to his refusal to observe the mandatory 3 weeks orientation in the camp.
Recall that Davido was also involved in political rallies of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the Osun Gubernatorial election in support of his uncle, Senator Adeleke, which is against the NYSC code of conduct for corpers.
The National Youth Service Corps Bye-Laws stipulates, among others things, that:
“Every member shall:
Attend regularly, and participate, fully in all official engagements on the field, at lectures and all places of work.
Any member who comes late to any official engagement on the field, at lectures or places of work shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of the camp.
The member shall only be allowed to come back for service by joining the next batch for the orientation exercise.
Not leave orientation camp or absent himself from any official activity without the written consent of the State Coordinator but when absent from his duties on account of illness, ensure that such absences is covered by an “Excuse Duty Certificate” issued by a medical doctor then on duty at the camp.
Any member who leaves the camp without the permission from the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of camp.
The member shall only be allowed to come back for service by joining the next batch for the orientation exercise.”
What acts or omissions on the part of Davido necessiated the NYSC management’s big stick?
Time will tell.
